Good morning to all of our beloved friends and clients and although the weather has left me as soggy as Cornflakes in warm milk, the unofficial start of Summer is just days away.


Now I don't know where your head is but seeing my full on "Dad Bod" this morning after my morning shower, I was thinking how can I drop 18 pounds in less than 4 days. And once again, the internet has answered my prayers with a little time tested remedy called the Tapeworm Diet. Oh I ship you not, this is the real deal my fellow travelers. In fact the tapeworm diet has got to be one of the most extreme methods, some say foolish (probably said by skinny people) I ever read about. It involves swallowing an actual worm (I marinated mine in Johnnie Walker Black), then the tapeworm wriggles around in your intestines interfering with your digestion process and eating up all your food, making it possible for you to consume more calories without putting on weight. Hello, this is just what the doctor ordered...I can eat all the food I want and the worm gains the weight, count me in. Oh, there is one side effect, you might and this is like a 6 and 10 chance die from this. But hey, that is a small price to pay for looking your best this weekend. By the way I named my Worm "Gordo the Weight Warrior" due to the fact that I admire his gravitas and my love for the Luchadores of Central American Wrestling. I will keep you posted on my progress and if you happen to see that we opened a restaurant next store to Metro, then you can assume you missed my funeral. Well, it looks as though the weather will be nice this weekend and Metro will be your Memorial Day Headquarters for all thing Piscivorous.

Today's Featured Recipes Created With Love for You...

Sumac Monkfish Kebobs Serves 4
Can you count on your half-Lebanese Fishmonger to get you out of the weekday kitchen in less than 30 minutes? Can you count on your half-Lebanese Fishmonger to decimate all the Scotch in your house in less than 1 hour? Uh, hell yes! But now without judgement, let's make dinner.

1½ to 2 pounds of Monkfish cut into 1½ inch chunks...this can be lovingly done by a Metro Seafood Specialist with great pride and pleasure.
Bamboo skewers soaked in water for 20 to 30 minutes
2 cloves of garlic crushed and chopped
The juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon of sumac (a lemony tart spice found at all Mirages and Metro Seafood)
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Salt and Pepper

How it's done
In a medium glass bowl or pie plate combine the garlic, lemon juice, sumac and olive oil with a generous pinch of salt and pepper. 

Add the Monkfish pieces to the bowl and toss to coat well; cover with plastic wrap and let marinate on the counter for 10 to 15 minutes.

Preheat your gas grill to medium high heat.

Remove the fish from the marinade and thread onto the wooden skewers.

On well-oiled grates cook the Monkfish skewers for 4 minutes per side or until just opaque when fork tested.

To serve, transfer the skewers to a large serving platter and garnish with lemon wedges.

Drizzle the skewers with a little of your best olive oil and without one thought of political correctness feel free to proclaim that this dish was easy-peasy Lebanesey. 

That's right fellow travelers, with some warmed pita and a simple salad you just crushed dinner.  

Pan Seared Shrimp over an Arugula Chickpea Salad Serves 4
When you say to yourself that you have to "detox" after a weekend of debaucherous eating, please know that your Fishmonger holds no judgment. In fact, I might say "Well done my friend, can you please go into great painful detail your most fat laden meal?"..."I pray that involves bacon but please speak slowly."

For the Shrimp

1½ to 2 pounds of medium or large shrimp cleaned and deveined with the tails removed
¼ cup of olive oil plus a little more for cooking
The juice and finely grated zest of 1 lemon, like that free lemon you just got from Metro
2 cloves of garlic minced fine
1 tablespoon of fresh chopped mint
Salt and Pepper

For the Arugula Chickpea Salad
2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
1/3 cup of olive oil
Salt and Pepper
1-14 ounce can of chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1 pint of grape tomatoes, halved
1 cup of button mushroom sliced thin
1-5 ounce package of Baby Arugula
½ of a small Red Onion chopped
½ cup of crumbled feta cheese (to sprinkle over the top with)

How it's done
First let's marinate the shrimp by combining the olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic and mint with a good pinch of salt and pepper in a medium glass bowl or pie plate; add the shrimp and toss well to coat.

Cover with plastic wrap and let marinate on the counter while you prepare the rest of the dish.

Next make the salad by combining all of the ingredients in a salad bowl and season to taste with salt and pepper; set aside.

Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium high heat until very hot.

Drizzle a little olive oil into the skillet and sear the shrimp (in batches if necessary) for 2 minutes per side or until just opaque when knife tested.

To serve, transfer the Salad to a large serving platter and place the shrimp on top of the salad and finally sprinkle over the feta cheese. 

Now please be warned that although delicious, this meal might send your body into a healthful shock as it still might be craving the Nutella Mac & Cheese you had this weekend.
